Robbie Neilson talked about decapitation in the build up but Hearts heads were left spinning against Celtic on Saturday. The Hoops swaggered into the Scottish Cup semi-finals with a 3-0 win and Parkhead punters reckon the Tynecastle boss must now feel like Mick Beale at Ibrox.
Gerard Kelly emailed: “Neilson must be raging his team got hammered at their own ground and fans were walking out after 75 minutes. Another manger good at talking the talk. Do Neilson and Beale meet up to discuss what they should say?” Eddie Easson Ballingry said: Forget decapitated, Neilson was dechumpitated. Did he not heed the lessons from Rangers with stupid statements? Celtic do their talking on the pitch.”
John Caw, via email, said: “Did Neilson shut his eyes when Celtic were attacking? His comments baffled me. Celtic should have scored a few more. Hearts were better on Wednesday when Celtic could have scored about eight.”
Speaking of Beale, the Gers boss has short and longer term goals, but it remains to be seen if striker Alfredo Morelos is part of either. The Columbian is out of contract in the summer with strong talk of a move to Sevilla. Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, said: "Beale should drop him from first team. The league is just about over so he should put Colak first and promote some of the youngsters.”
Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Morelos was a good player and goal scorer, but after a serious injury and six months out, he never was the same. His game fell away coupled with not being fit and poor attitude. Good luck to him if he goes to Sevilla but knocking back a £16million offer has turned out a costly error by Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson.”
The Old Firm might be fighting each other but the pair of them are inflicting plenty of pain on the rest of Scottish football. Ex-Celt John Hartson spoke of his concerns about the lack of competition but the huge gulf in finances make it pretty tough for the rest.
John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “The days of Aberdeen and Dundee United beating the Old Firm for fun are long gone. It was a level playing field back then. Sadly now it's about as level as Easter Road's old sloping pitch.”
But Steve McSherry, Uddingston, was perhaps at the wind up as he said: “Although Celtic beat Hearts, that was our toughest game this season. I firmly believe that next season Hearts will be our biggest challengers as I can’t see Aberdeen or Hibs mounting a serious challenge.”
On Hibs, the fallout from the Rangers game at Easter Road last week is rumbling on after fan disruption to Ron Gordon’s tribute. But Danny Robertson, Paisley, said: ”Absolutely unbelievable reading the Hibs fans talking about other clubs supporters. Are these the same people that invaded Hampden Park in their last Scottish Cup Final, attacking the opposition players?”
Whataboutery is alive and well, but what about relegation scrappers Kilmarnock after getting bounced out of the cup in Inverness. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Killie are playing rotten. If Derek McInnes does not turn them round, you can see Billy Bowie showing him the door.”
Finally, the world seems to have lost their marbles over Gary Lineker’s dispute with Auntie Beeb. Even our Sportscene got dragged into the dispute but Grant Richards, via email, said: “Well done the BBC for their MOTD and Sportscene coverage. It saved me from recording the shows and editing out the pundits.”
Hey, let’s leave the pundits alone, at least they give everyone some more things to get mad about.
