Robbie Neilson rues 'slack' Hearts display as he reveals reason why St Mirren draw disappoints him

Robbie Neilson has rued his Hearts side for being too 'slack' against St Mirren as the Jambos salvaged a point in Paisley.

It was one way traffic against the Buddies and not in the favour of the Gorgie, as Ryan Strain's early free-kick topped off a period of domination from Stephen Robinson's side who felt the first-half should have been done and dusted. Yet Neilson's men found a way back in to the clash with experienced Robert Snodgrass netting his first Hearts goal on his return to the club.

It ended a goal and a point apiece between sixth place and third place, but the Hearts boss admits he was searching for more in a first half that set his team behind. He told BBC Sportsound: "I thought first half we dominated possession, but we dominated possession too deep. You know when you come down to St Mirren it's going to be a tough game, and they tried to hit us on the counter-attack.

"Second half, we were much higher up the pitch and that allows us to control the game. We're disappointed not to take the three points. It's a difficult place to come, so sometimes you just have to take the point and get up the road.

"We were slack in our play. We did pick it up and make it snappier, definitely second half was more like us. They're flying at the moment. I thought first half we didn't get to the levels we've been at, but second half, we did."
