Robbie Neilson reveals why Hearts dugout ban wasn't worth fighting as he says 'better me than one of my players'

Robbie Neilson admitted appealing his three-match touchline would be a waste of time after losing an SFA fight last season.

The Hearts gaffer was rapped by the Hampden beaks after being shown two yellow cards during his sides 1-1 draw against Rangers at Ibrox at the weekend.

Neilson isn’t happy with the punishment handed out following his fury after claiming Juninho Bacuna grabbing Stephen Kingsley by the throat.

The charge carries a one-match ban, but Neilson will miss a further two due to a suspended ban from last season, meaning he will be in the stands for Scottish Premiership fixtures against Dundee, St Johnstone and Aberdeen.

Neilson let rip at John Beaton following a 3-2 home loss against Raith Rovers last season and was given a two-match ban with those further two suspended after an appeal.

Hearts Manager Robbie Neilson is sent off by Referee John Beaton after the full time whistle following their 2-3 defeat in the Scottish Championship match between Hearts and Raith Rovers at Tynecastle (SNS Group)

And after his latest punishment, he shrugged: “There’s not much point in appealing it - when I appealed the last one it went from a one to a two plus two so sometimes you just need to take it.

“I’m disappointed with it to be honest with you but I’d rather it was me getting sent off than one of the players.

“Generally, when you go to Ibrox or Parkhead something like that’s going to happen so we just have to move on from it.”

Speaking after the Rangers match at the weekend where he was unhappy with whistler Don Robertson, Neilson said: "I am more disappointed at the fourth official because the boy (Bacuna) has grabbed Stephen Kingsley by the throat right in front of him. That is a red card.

"So I complained about that and complained again and got a second one. But when you come to these places you are not going to get the decisions."
