Robbie Neilson raves about 'world class' Craig Gordon and outlines why Hearts are lucky to have him

Robbie Neilson has described Hearts 'keeper Craig Gordon after the veteran shot-stopper pulled off two excellent saves to deny Arbroath.

Kris Doolan was denied twice by Gordon in the first half of the Jambos' scrappy 1-0 win at Gayfield.

Craig Wighton's second-half strike secured the three points for the Tynecastle club.

And while Neilson is pleased with the contribution of his attacking players, he reserved special praise for Gordon.

He told BBC Scotland: "Craig does it every day in training. He's still in my opinion a world class keeper. We're just so lucky to have him.

"If you want to build a Championship winning team you have to start with your goalie and work with your back four.

"I thought all five of them tonight were exceptional."

Wighton got the only goal of the game with a neat chipped finish, and Neilson believes we're starting to see the best of the striker.

He added: "He's improving every week. Over the lockdown he went away and worked really hard. He had a cruciate injury about 18 months ago and sometimes it takes you a bit of time to get over that.

"When you come back and people say you're fit, you're still not 100 per cent. I think we're starting to see the best of him now. I've been really pleased with him."
