Robbie Neilson provides Hearts injury update on key star with late Hibs decision to be made

Robbie Neilson says he will give Stephen Kingsley every chance to make the Edinburgh derby after revealing he took part in Hearts training.

The defender has become a key player and fans' favourite since making the move to Tynecastle as he played a major role in the success of last season. The Jambos finished the campaign third behind Celtic and Rangers and also reached the Scottish Cup to earn a crack at the Europa League. Linfield or FC Zurich await in the play-off round with the winner advancing to the groups with the loser having the parachute of guaranteed Europa Conference League group stages.

The Gorgie outfit kicked off their Premiership campaign last weekend with victory over Ross County and will hope to follow up that success with a derby day win over Hibs. Lee Johnson's men also picked up an opening day win ahead of the big showdown at Easter Road.

Kingsley missed the win over the Staggies at Tynecastle, but could return tomorrow with Neilson set to make a late call over a player he describes as a 'key man'.

Providing an update on the 28-year-old, he said: "He trained a wee bit today (Friday). He will train again tomorrow and we will make a decision on him.

"He is a key player for us and we just need to make sure he is right.

"He took part in some of the training today. He was out there. Separately from everyone else but he is a little bit closer and we will see how he recovers from that and make a decision.

"We have a good squad here. It was one of the things we spoke about in the close season is bringing in real quality.

"You seen last week we had a couple of guys out but the guys that came in handled it no problem."
