Robbie Neilson predicts 'real' Andy Halliday Hearts emergence as boss pinpoints positive sign

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson reckons Andy Halliday is finally approaching peak performance at Tynecastle.

The former Rangers man arrived in Gorgie on a free transfer at the end of September, before the delayed Championship season got underway.

He has received criticism for some underwhelming displays so far in his Jambos career but was one of the league leaders' star performers in the 1-0 win over Ayr United at the weekend.

Neilson believes he's turned a corner in a long road to full match fitness with the midfielder not enjoying a pre-season after leaving Steven Gerrard's side in the summer.

He said: “Andy is a very experienced player but I still think there is more to come from him.

“We brought him in here late, he hadn't done a pre-season and had done very little training since March.

“The more games he gets, the more we're starting to see the real Andy Halliday.

“Even towards the end of Friday's game, he was bursting through the midfield to get forward. That's what we want from him.”
