Robbie Neilson pens new Hearts contract as Jambos top team sign up for the long haul

Robbie Neilson and his coaching staff have all been rewarded with new Hearts contracts. The Jambos boss, plus key men Gordon Forrest and Lee McCulloch have signed "long term deals".

The trio led the club to third place on their first season back in the Premiership, as well as to the Scottish Cup Final and entry to this season's Europa League qualifiers. They took over following Hearts' relegation to the Championship in 2020 and have rapidly turned fortunes around at Tynecastle.

They finished well clear as best of the rest behind Celtic and Rangers last term but have now set their sights on taking further strides. And, following an extensive summer recruitment drive, that's continued in the form of tying down their management team. Sporting director Joe Savage insists Neilson and his team's influence is "plain for all to see." He told the Hearts website: “A tremendous amount of hard work has been undertaken over the past two-years and the results are plain for all to see.

"There has been an improvement in playing style, in performances and, most importantly, in results and Robbie, Gordon and Lee have been integral to that. Their professionalism is second to none and anyone lucky enough to have watched them in action will have seen how meticulous they are in everything they do, and that has helped this club return to the top of the Scottish game. With a settled and very talented playing squad and coaching staff, I’m excited to see where this group can take us next and I’m sure the fans will be too.”

And Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay added: “Everyone at Hearts is delighted that Robbie, Gordon and Lee have committed their long-term futures to the club. The progress the first-team has made in a short space of time is unquestionable and that is in no small part due to the talents, professionalism and determination of the coaching staff.

“They have raised standards on the park and the entire club has reaped the benefits as we shape up for one of the biggest seasons in the Hearts’ history, and I cannot think of a better trio to lead us into it.”
