Robbie Neilson pens new Dundee United deal as club also tie down highly-rated youngster

Boss Robbie Neilson has penned a new two-year extension at Dundee United after successful talks with Tannadice chiefs.

The 39-year-old will be extending his stay with the Championship leaders until 2022, a timely boost as they look to seal promotion this season.

The former Hearts and MK Dons manager replaced Csaba Laszlo just over a year ago and has committed his future with the club.

Neilson revealed on Tuesday that negotiations were ongoing and that he views Dundee United as a long-term project.

He said: “We have had a chat about that and hope to make an announcement towards the end of this week.

“I am really happy here and the staff are happy too. Everything is agreed.

“It is just over a year since I took the job and I have had a nice time.

“Tony (Ashgar) and I have a great relationship and we both have the same plans and ambitions for the club.

“It is a long-term project here and I want to be here to see it through.

“I think any manager wants to be part of a club that is going places and this club is continuing to drive forward.”

United striker Louis Appéré has also signed a contract extension until 2022 after an impressive start to the campaign.
