Robbie Neilson outlines Hearts transfer approach as he reveals priority positions

Hearts will target quality over quantity during the summer transfer window.

Manager Robbie Neilson is well aware the squad needs strengthening ahead of their return to the Scottish Premiership.

Previous windows have seen a high turnover of players in a number of positions at Tynecastle. But the plan this year is to take a more targeted approach and recruit in key positions.

Goalkeeper Ross Stewart has already signed a pre-contract to join in the summer and it's thought centre back and out wide are Neilson’s areas of priority.

The plan is for Hearts to go with a younger, smaller squad next season as well.

“There are a few positions we are looking at,” he told the Edinburgh Evening News.

“There are a few positions we are looking at,” Neilson told the Evening News. “We need to strengthen in defensive areas and the midfield as well. Then we will look to attacking areas. There are a few places where we need to improve.

"We do have a good squad but any team that is stepping up a division needs to add. We want to add to the quality that is already in the team. We are looking to see what's out there and there are a few players we are interested in.

"It's very early days in the market so we will wait and see what comes up.”
