Robbie Neilson hit with Hearts ban as boss faces SFA wrath after John Beaton flashpoint

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson has been hit with a two-game touchline ban after confronting referee John Beaton after their defeat to Raith Rovers.

Neilson attended a Scottish FA hearing on Wednesday as he stood accused of 'misconduct' following Hearts' 3-2 defeat to Raith at Tynecastle on January 23.

The boss was unhappy with Beaton's performance as the official awarded the visitors a contentious penalty at the start of the second half, while also allowing Reghan Tumilty's goal to stand despite complaints of handball.

Neilson had been booked for sarcastically applauding Beaton during the game and was shown a second yellow after the match when he marched onto the pitch for a word with the referee.

A notice of complaint was subsequently issued, citing an alleged breach of disciplinary rule 203, which states 'no member of team staff shall commit misconduct in a match'.

He has been handed a two-match ban which will see him banished to the stand for Hearts’ upcoming fixtures against Morton and Inverness.

Neilson's side let their lead at the top of the Championship slip to 13 points after a surprise draw with Queen of the South on Friday.

They will be looking to get back to winning ways when Morton come to Tynecastle on Saturday, but will have to do it without their manager.
