Robbie Neilson has hailed Andy Halliday's "experience and quality" after sealing the signing of the former Rangers midfielder on an initial two-year deal.
The 28-year-old has will join up with his new Tynecastle teammates ahead of the start of Hearts Betfred Cup campaign early next month.
The former Rangers midfielder joins following five years at Ibrox after being released in the summer.
Halliday made more than 100 appearances for his boyhood heroes, also spending a short period on loan in Azerbaijan after joining the club from Bradford City.
He previously said he would find it "difficult" to sign for another Scottish club out of loyalty to the Ibrox side, but plumped for a move to the second tier to aid in Neilson's promotion push.
Neilson told the Hearts website: "I’m really pleased to be able to bring in someone of Andy’s experience and quality.
"He’s played top level football in Scotland and in the English Championship and was a mainstay at Rangers for years.
"He’s also got experience of the Scottish Championship so he knows what this level is about and, more importantly, how to win.
"Andy’s really driven and determined and I want that on the park. I think he’ll do well for us and I’m looking forward to working with him."
