Robbie Neilson details Hearts role for Steven Naismith as he rules out striker switch

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson admits it's unlikely that he'll ever use Steven Naismith as the main striker for the club.

The veteran has been playing in the No. 10 role for the Jambos and Neilson reckons you would lose his influence on the game if you pushed him further forward.

With Gary Mackay-Steven joining, there's added attacking threat for Hearts and they are also looking to bring in another striker to support Liam Boyce and Craig Wighton.

But Naismith won't be used up there as Neilson looks to get more out of him from a deeper role for the club.

He said: “I think he does most of his good work a wee bit deeper. We are asking him to get into the box but just arrive a wee bit later.

“You kind of lose his influence on the game if you play him right up top. Sometimes the striker just leads the line and doesn't get a lot of play. I see Naisy as being that wee bit deeper.”

The Tynecastle club will have gone two weeks without a game by the time they face Alloa on Saturday.

Scottish Cup postponements led to them not playing on Saturday, and their game against Dunfermline on Tuesday has also been delayed.
