Robbie Keane says Newcastle takeover is 'all about money' but wants move to be a 'success'

Robbie Keane has branded Newcastle's recent takeover as 'all about money' but also says that he hopes it to be a success for fans of the club.

Newcastle were recently taken over by Saudi Arabia's Public Invest Fund which could provide a massive financial boost to the club as they hope to become one of the powerhouses of English football.

And Keane branded the takeover as a money move.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the Republic of Ireland legend said: "The political side of things of football has always been there and will always be there.

"When it comes to a big industry like the Premier League and a big club like Newcastle it's all about money isn't it, they've got so much money that they can dictate what they can do.

"Put politics aside, which is certainly not my game and there's a lot more clever people out there than me, but just as an ex-football and someone that loves the game the Premier League is the best league in the world and you want to see teams competing.

"You don't want the same teams all the time of the Liverpools and the Manchester Uniteds and the Chelseas who have a lot of money competing at the highest level all the time.

"You want to see teams who haven't had success, you want to see them come up and try and be a success for the fans because they've suffered for so long, certainly Newcastle fans."

Newcastle recently parted ways with manager Steve Bruce and currently sit 19th in the Premier League table.
