Robbie Keane puts forward Celtic backroom staff of two club icons

Robbie Keane has reportedly named two Celtic icons as part of his potential backroom staff should he be given the manager's job.

The former Hoops striker is in the frame for the gig at Parkhead in what is expected to be a straight shootout with Martin O'Neill. And it has been claimed he has met with Dermot Desmond to discuss next plans.

Keane was seemingly asked by the hierarchy to pitch his staff to come with him to Lennoxtown and the Daily Record are reporting that he has asked former captain Scott Brown and countryman Jonny Hayes to join him.

The same publication claims Keane is "prepared to put a strong team together around him" which would also include former Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass who has previously worked in the US.

Glass worked alongside Keane as his assistant at Ferencvaros where they won titles together.

Both men left their positions at the Hungarian giants after losing out on the Nemzeti Bajnokság I to rivals ETO Gyor.

Glass has also worked closely with Broony at the Dons as he was the man who convinced the retired midfielder to leave Celtic for Pittodrie in the first instance.

Hayes also played for Hayes at Aberdeen and has been working most recently as a coach with Celtic's B team. The two Hoops heroes visited Keane and his staff in Hungary.

Keane would perhaps be seen as the longer term option for Celts should he be appointed while O'Neill would likely only be a short-term fix. But that has not prevented the Northern Irishman, 74, from being still in the hunt.

His assistants, Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, are yet to learn their futures but the former is in discussions to become Celtic's head of football.
