Robbie Keane makes frank admission about Spurs amid battle with Manchester City and Liverpool

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane firmly believes that the Premier League title race will be a straightforward battle between Liverpool and Manchester City once again.

Keane made the admission after watching former club Spurs suffer their first defeat of the new season, losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs produced a flat and largely disjointed performance as they lost ground to Liverpool and Manchester City, albeit just three games into the season.

Nevertheless, the performance was enough for Keane to make a judgement, insisting that he believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side will again fall short in their attempts to claim their first ever Premier League crown after competing until the turn of the year last term.

When asked who he thought will be Manchester City’s challengers in the race for the title, Keane told Sky Sports: “Liverpool. I think it’s between those two sides again. This campaign we have already seen signs from the three games that last season’s form is continuing.

“I think Tottenham are again going to be too short. Hopefully they will finish in the top four but Liverpool and Man City are just ahead.

“Liverpool were fantastic the other day against Arsenal.

"Man City didn’t play their best against Bournemouth. The difference is the top sides take their chances.”

The defeat against Newcastle leaves Tottenham with four points from their first three games of the season, with Manchester City three points ahead of them and Liverpool already five points clear of Mauricio Pochettino's men, having won each of their first three games.
