Robbie Gould has almost as many misses as Eddy Pineiro has made field goals

There was a time this past offseason when it was a real possibility that there could be a Robbie Gould reunion with the Chicago Bears.

Given the Bears’ struggles at kicker since they released Gould in 2016, Gould represented the idea of stability at the lone position that was a concern before the season.

Flash forward six weeks into the 2019 season, and it appears that the Bears got the better end of the deal with first-year kicker Eddy Pineiro.

Prior to Week 6, Gould had connected on just 58.3 percent of his field goals for the 49ers. That’s right, 58.3 percent. He’s missed six field goals this season.

Gould didn’t get off to a solid start against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, where he missed a 55-yarder — that was short, not wide — which marked his fourth straight missed field goal. Although, Gould went on to connect on two second-half field goals, including a long of 34 yards.

Pineiro, however, has connected on 8-of-9 field goals this season, including two beyond 50 yards. One of those field goals was a 53-yard game-winning field goal against the Denver Broncos in Week 2.

Gould has missed almost as many field goals (6) as Pineiro has made field goals (8).

For all of the criticism that the Bears received regarding their very public and controversial kicker competition, Chicago is one of the few teams in the NFL that feels good about their kicker situation.
