Robbie Gotts set to end Leeds United association with permanent transfer

After joining Leeds United’s academy as a child, Robbie Gotts looks likely to end his long association with a permanent transfer.

The 21-year-old is expecting to depart Elland Road with a switch to League Two under Barrow or Oldham Athletic while the Scottish Premiership is an option with Motherwell.

Gotts leaves West Yorkshire with three first-team appearances to his name and a famous debut at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup.

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has always spoken warmly of the diminutive academy talent.

His faith was underlined by that prolonged stretch of 35 inclusions on the first-team bench without playing before the debut in London.

However, this summer, with one year remaining on his contract, it became clear Gotts was surplus to requirements.

Along with Niall Huggins, Bobby Kamwa, Bryce Hosannah and Jordan Stevens, Gotts trained separately from the first team and under-23s. They failed to appear at all in the club’s pre-season friendlies.

Rather than risk losing a valuable year of football to the Thorp Arch wilderness, Gotts has found his next opportunity and a chance to kickstart his promising career.
