Robbie Fowler wants to be Hibs next manager as Liverpool legend makes contact with Easter Road chiefs

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has emerged as a possible candidate to replace Jack Ross as Hibs boss.

Record Sport can reveal the former England striker made contact with the Easter Road club over the weekend to express an interest in taking on the role.

Fowler has worked as a manager in Australia and India but is now back in Britain looking for an opportunity to establish himself as a coach on home soil.

He had to cut short his stay Down Under at Melbourne Roar when the pandemic struck at the start of 2020 before joining East Bengal in the Indian Super League later that year.

The 46-year-old left by mutual consent in September and is now itching to get back into the game.

And Fowler hopes to be in with a shot of leading the club into Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final against Celtic at Hampden.

A source close to Fowler told Record Sport : “Robbie has already been in touch with Hibs to hand in his CV.

“He’s a highly ambitious young coach and deadly serious about this opportunity. Having cut his teeth as a coach on two different continents Robbie would love the opportunity to implement his ideas a lot closer to home in Edinburgh.”

American owner Ron Gordon swung the axe on Ross last week after a miserable run culminated in a 1-0 defeat at Livingston.

Cup final hero David Gray stepped into the dugout for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at St Mirren but does not consider himself as a candidate for the job.

Former Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is among the bookies favourites along with Alex Neil and Neil Lennon. Kelty Hearts manager Kevin Thomson could also be in the running after making a highly impressive start to his coaching career in the fourth tier of the Scottish game.
