Robbie Fowler pays emotional 'dreams' tribute to Liverpool legend Gerard Houllier

Robbie Fowler has paid an emotional tribute to Liverpool legend Gerard Houllier.

The prolific former striker, affectionately known as 'God' at Anfield, posted a picture of himself with his former manager following the news Houllier had died on Monday aged 73.

Accompanying the image on Twitter was a touching message from Fowler which read: "Goodnight Boss... Gave us dreams and songs to sing. #YNWA".

Houllier initially took charge at Liverpool as joint-manager with Roy Evans in an experiment that lasted less than six months before he was given the job outright in November 1998.

Fowler was already among the Anfield ranks at the time and stayed under Houllier for three years, winning the treble with Liverpool in the historic 2000/01 season in which the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup were claimed.

He scored 17 goals during that campaign and captained the side whenever he started in the absence of Jamie Redknapp.

Leeds United came in to buy Fowler in November 2001 as Michael Owen and Emile Heskey were the preferred front two under Houllier.

The great Frenchman left Anfield in the summer of 2004 and went on to manage Lyon and Aston Villa.
