Robbie Fowler makes incredible gesture to young Irish fan with Down syndrome

Robbie Fowler gave a young Irish fan a very special surprise as he celebrated his birthday in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

Football fanatic Philip Walsh, who has Down syndrome, caused quite a stir on social media when he called out for birthday cards while celebrating his 27th birthday in isolation.

The young man received over 8,000 cards, blowing his family away at the support and generosity shown.

Irish football legend, Robbie Keane kicked things off when he brought Phillip a signed Irish jersey, and encouraged others to send their best wishes.

However, one card stood out from the rest, with Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler sending a personal greeting card and a signed Liverpool jersey.

Philip’s uncle Fintan told the Irish Sun: “He’s having the time of his life! When they put the call out he was hoping to get a few letters but never did we think it would take off like this.

“He’s had letters from all his heroes, the footballers, the rugby players, Daniel O’Donnell sent a letter! It’s been fantastic, the response has been overwhelming.

“He was hoping to maybe get a few hundred letters, and at last count it’s been over 8,000.”

Fintan added: “Philip’s a massive sports fan, he loves Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea. So to get a message from Robbie Fowler was just unbelievable!”
