Robbie Fowler has found 'perfect' striker for Liverpool to sign

Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler has told Jurgen Klopp to consider signing Ollie Watkins this summer.

Watkins scored 14 Premier League goals after moving to Aston Villa in a £28m move from Brentford at the start of last season.

The 25-year-old - who was subsequently selected for England - netted on his international debut against San Marino and Fowler insists he would be the perfect option to Klopp rejuvenate his forward line at Liverpool.

Divock Origi is available for transfer this summer while the futures of Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino remain uncertain.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are all 29 and Klopp entered the market to sign £45m forward Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.

Fowler told The Athletic : “I like Ollie Watkins at Villa.

“When you start delving into how Liverpool play and how they press, his stats are perfect.

"He scores goals and his work rate is spot on. He looks like a Klopp player to me.

“Of course Villa wouldn’t want to lose him and he wouldn’t come cheap but he’s done very well since arriving from Brentford.

“A lot of big clubs didn’t take a chance on him but he’s made that leap from the Championship to the Premier League and has proved he belongs there.”
