Robbie Brady a Celtic transfer target as Burnley ace 'key part of Neil Lennon's future plans'

Celtic are targeting a pre-contract move for Robbie Brady, according to a report.

The Mirror claim the Burnley ace is high on the Parkhead side's summer wishlist as they look to bring in reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

There is set to be a huge rebuild at Celtic at the end of the season with Dominic McKay replacing Peter Lawwell as chief executive.

It's expected a string of first team stars will leave while Neil Lennon's future is in doubt.

But that's not stopped Lennon from preparing for next season as the report states Brady is "a key part of his future plans".

The 29-year-old is set to be a free agent in the summer as Celtic look to land him on the cheap.

The versatility of the Irishman is an attractive proposition for the club as he can play at left-back and further up the pitch as a winger.

Left-back is a position that will need to be addressed with Diego Laxalt's loan spell coming to an end and Boli Bolingoli expected to leave.

Celtic's depth in the wide areas has been a problem this term with James Forrest out injured.

Forrest could make a return on Sunday against St Johnstone, however, and Lennon reckons the Hoops' season might have turned out differently if he had been fit.

He said: "Absolutely, no question.

“We have missed him, there's no question of that. Any team would miss a player of that quality. His contribution to this club has been unbelievable.

"Before the lockdown last year he was up to 16 goals. He probably had as many assists as well. He's been doing that consistently for the best part of six or seven years.

“He's one of those kids who doesn't go on social media, doesn't court public opinion. He’s a bit like Callum McGregor. They just come in and play football, they're natural born footballers.”
