An unidentified gang of robbers snatched the gold ornaments of a woman passenger on the Seven Hills Express proceeding from Tirupati to Secunderabad after damaging the signalling equipment to stop the train, at Thurkapalli railway station, in Anantapur district, on Friday night.

When the robbers entered S5 and S7 compartments at 10 p.m., they tried to snatch jewellery from two women passengers but were successful only in once case as the second woman managed to hold her gold chain firmly.

Gooty Government Railway Police Circle Inspector B.V. Nagesh Babu said that Lakshmi Devi hailing from Perumallapalli, near Tirupati, lost 72.5 grams of gold ornaments. She was proceeding to Secunderabad.

The Gooty GRP has registered an FIR and is investigating if some persons already present in the compartment and their accomplice stopped the train to facilitate their escape.
