Three robbers in balaclavas with a hammer and a large knife fled a convenience store empty handed after a quick thinking staff member activated a panic alarm during an overnight botched raid.
The three men entered the Co-op store on Liverpool Road in Widnes last night, Wednesday, September 4, at 10.35pm.
The three thugs were wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons, a Cheshire police spokeswoman said, and the men demanded that staff show them to the safe.
However, at the same time, a staff member was able to activate the store's panic alarm, which caused the men to leave the shop empty handed.
Police have now released details of the three suspects they are hunting and what they were each armed with.
One of the men is described by officers as white, of a slim build and around 5ft 7ins tall.
He was wearing a dark jacket and in possession of a weapon similar to a cosh.
Police say the second man is white, of a slim build and around 5ft 7ins tall.
He was wearing grey clothing and in possession of a hammer.
The third and final man is described by officers as white, was wearing a black jacket and was in possession of a large knife.
Detectives investigating the attempted robbery are now appealing for the public to come forward with information.
