Robber waves gun in front of terrified shoppers at supermarket in Rathmines, Co Dublin

A robber waved a gun in front of terrified staff before escaping with cash from a busy supermarket in Co Dublin.

The incident happened in a Lidl in the Rathmines area of the city on Monday.

Customers in the store were left stunned after the man stormed the shop wearing blue, leading some people to falsely believe he worked there, Dublin Live reports.

The man approached the register before pulling the gun and dipping his hands into the till.

The incident happened at around 4.40pm last Monday with the busy store full of shoppers at the time.

Gardai confirmed they’re investigating the incident while anyone with any information can contact Rathmines Garda Station.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí are investigating a robbery of a supermarket in Rathmines, Dublin 6, that occurred at approximately 4.40pm on Monday 30th January 2019.

“A male entered the supermarket and threatened staff carrying what was believed to be a firearm. A sum of cash was taken during the incident.

“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”
