KALASIN: A lone man who robbed a convenience store and made off with 30,000 baht late Friday night was arrested the next day as he staged another robbery at a gold shop.

Police arrested Detnarong Wannasang, 27, of tambon Bokaew in Nakhu district, on Saturday morning as he emerged from the Yaowarat gold shop in the district. When they searched him they found 19 speed pills but no gold.

Just a few hours earlier, police had been alerted to a robbery at a convenience store in downtown Nakhu district. The robber made off with 30,000 baht.

Police examined closed-circuit television images to identify the suspect but were unable to find him. The next morning, the same man, apparently high on drugs, struck the gold shop in the same district. The shop owner alerted police and the man was subsequently caught, said Pol Col Somchai Phukongchana, chief of the Nakhu police.

Officers initially pressed charges of theft and possession of illicit drugs against the suspect.
