Robber pulled man to the ground in a park and rifled through his pockets

A robber has been jailed for more than three years after he pulled a 51-year-old man to the ground and rifled through his pockets in an East Leake park.

Carl Powell, 34, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery and eight counts of fraud by false representation.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, September 9.

The victim was sitting on a bench in Meadow Park during the early hours of August 1, getting some fresh air after a night out in Nottingham.

He was approached by Powell and a second man who demanded he hand over his belongings or face a beating.

The victim was then pulled to the floor and held to the ground while the offenders rifled through his pockets and removed items.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises during the robbery.

Items stolen included an iPhone, wallet containing cash, iPod Nano and bank cards.

A short time later the offenders were caught on CCTV using the stolen bank cards at a store in West Bridgford, making a number of purchases. A taxi was also paid for with the cards.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson from Nottinghamshire Police said: "I welcome the custodial sentence given to Powell and hope it sends out the message that Nottinghamshire Police treats robbery seriously and will deal with offenders robustly.

"We will always investigate reports thoroughly and the CID is committed to tackling and reducing robbery and having a positive impact on community safety."
