A robber was fatally shot Tuesday night during a home invasion in Jeffery Manor on the South Side, according to Chicago police.

A resident of the home told officers he heard a loud sound at the front door about 11 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Calhoun. He opened the door and two masked gunmen forced their way in.

The man, 49, yelled for help and two other men, 24 and 25, ran up from the basement, police said. The three began to fight with the robbers, and a gun discharged several times.

One of the robbers was struck in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The second robber ran off and remains at large.

The 25-year-old man was struck in the arm and taken to Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
