Robber armed with handgun threatened staff in Tesco and fled with cash

A robber threatened Tesco staff with a handgun before fleeing with a quantity of cash.

The man entered the supermarket, on Green Lane, in Ashton-upon-Mersey, Sale, brandishing the firearm.

He made threats to staff and then ran away from the store with the stolen money.

Nobody was injured, but the Tesco workers have been left shaken.

Greater Manchester Police were alerted to the armed robbery at the Tesco Express shortly before 11pm on Thursday (October 24).

No arrests have been made and police continue to investigate.

A statement released by GMP said: "Shortly before 11pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019 police were called to a report of an armed robbery at a Tesco Express on Green Lane, Sale.

"A man entered the store armed with a handgun and threatened staff. The man then fled the store with a quantity of cash.

"No one was injured but the employees were left understandably shaken.


"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 3445 of 24/10/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
