'Robbed again' - Arsenal fans in disbelief after controversial decision in Manchester City clash

Arsenal have not had the best of times against Manchester City in recent seasons with their most recent clash ending in a 5-0 victory for Pep Guardiola's side.

After that clash, the Gunners were left rock bottom of the Premier League but have since risen into the top four, winning their last four games on the bounce.

But beating City would require a performance level not seen at the Emirates for years, although the early stages of the game showed that they might just provide it.

Chances came the way of both sides in the early stages with the energy of Mikel Arteta's men forcing the typically calm and collected visitors to sit back.

One big moment of controversy came in the 10th minute. A lovely Arsenal move eventually saw Alexandre Lacazette thread a pass to Martin Odegaard just inside the City penalty area.

Heading away from goal, the Norwegian appeared to poke the ball away from Ederson in the nick of time as Odegaard hit the deck under the Brazilian's challenge.

A corner was given but the Arsenal players were adamant a penalty should have been given. A VAR check was carried out but the on-field decision remained.

Replays, however, appeared to show Ederson first making contact with Odegaard's foot before the ball.

It is safe to say that Arsenal fans were not impressed with the decision going against them...

@AFCDW said: "Absolute nonsense. He doesn’t get the ball, he just kicks Ødegaard’s foot. If the referee gives it, no chance VAR overturns it."

@SemperFiArsenal said: "What a joke."

@Sammy611 said: "Clear penalty."

@Adonis131 said: "Actually mad that we didn’t get that penalty."

@Chesney535 said: "It was a clear penalty robbed again."

@KamuB3 said: "It's a clear penalty."

@Ethan1923 said: "Joke of a decision."

@SteveFC said: "He’s literally missed the ball and took his foot out."
