Rob Rinder reveals he's travelling to Ukrainian border to help former BBC Strictly Come Dancing partner

Robert Rinder has revealed he's travelling to the Ukrainian border to help his former Strictly Come Dancing partner.

The TV star, who is best known to viewers for appearing on his own ITV show Judge Rinder, shared the news on Twitter with his followers.

Rob, who is a criminal barrister, tweeted that he hopes to rescue Strictly partner Oksana Platero's grandparents from the war-torn country more than two weeks after Russia invaded the country.

He explained that he will be travelling to Ukraine's border with Poland on Monday to hopefully meet Oksana's grandparents as people continue to flee the country in their thousands.

"Oksana Platero my Ukrainian dance partner on @bbcstrictly gifted me so much,' Robert started his tweet. "Right now her grandparents are a week into their struggle to find sanctuary in a safe country.

"I'll be trying to meet them on the border next week. They’re just a few of the millions who need us. @GMB," he added.

In addition to his first tweet, Rob said: "Depends on where they make it to but I’ll be at the polish border from Monday," before also commenting: "If they cross into Hungary the next step will be getting them to safety with their family."

His followers were quick to share their support and back his efforts.

@ZebraSats5 said: "You are absolutely amazing what a beautiful thing to do honestly wish there was more people like you in the world because the world would be a much happier and lovelier place. Hope you have a safe journey and can bring them back to their family."

"Wishing you lots of luck and keep yourself self. The world needs kind hearts," @Vanessa5694 replied.

@jdwallis commented: "Respect, Robert. Stay safe and good luck!"

Rob also shared Oksana's GoFundMe page which has so far raised more than 10,000 dollars. She said on the page: "Dear Friends, As you already know, many families are going through such hardship with the war in Ukraine. My family and my cousin's, Kateryna Klishyna, family are escaping and close to the border.

"My mother, my 10 year old brother, and Kateryna’s sister, left their home the morning of March 2nd and arrived to safety March 6th. As you can imagine, the journey there was brutal but all that matters is that they made it, and they are safe. We are forever grateful to still have them as there are so many who can’t say the same.

"The rest of our family which include our 3 grandparents, 2 who are not able to walk, and Kateryna’s mom and dad, are still in danger as they are currently still trying to escape. We are praying that they will make it out of Ukraine and into safety soon.

"What's next is for them is unclear, unpredictable, and terrifying.

She continued: "This is where we’d like to ask for any support as they spend their time away from home. They will be in need of accommodations, food, and medical attention for quite some time. We are raising money to send to them and keep them in good hands. Anything you can do to help would be much appreciated.

"From the bottom our our hearts we thank you and please keep our family and the rest of Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers. Oksana and Kateryna."

Oksana, a Ukrainian ballroom and Latin dancer, joined Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer in series 14 where she was patterned with Rob.

The pair were eliminated in the quarterfinals and finished in 5th place with Oksana leaving the hit BBC One show after one series.
