Wales boss Rob Page says he is joining Steve Clarke ’s campaign for a FIFA rethink on World Cup qualifying cautions that could yet cost Scotland’s Qatar dream.
Scotland boss Clarke has called for Europe’s play-off hopefuls to gang up on the game’s global governing body and force it to scrap the harsh rules which left eight of his key men walking a suspension tightrope against Denmark on Monday night.
The Scots boss saw his side survive the showdown with Kasper Hjulmand’s side without any of his under-threat stars collecting the second booking which would have ruled them out of March’s play-off semi-final.
But with cards carrying over, Clarke faces another sweat if his side march on to reach the Final.
Skipper Andy Robertson leads the list just one yellow away from a ban, with John McGinn, Billy Gilmour, Che Adams, Jack Hendry, Stephen O’Donnell and Kevin Nisbet also in danger.
Welsh boss Page was not quite as lucky after seeing midfielder Joe Morrell pick up a yellow against Belgium which now rules him out of their opening play-off clash.
He also has seven other players on a booking flirting with suspension, including Juventus ace Aaron Ramsey and former Liverpool star Joe Allen.
Page agrees with Clarke that a rule change is required and has vowed to join forces with his Scottish counterpart to lobby FIFA for a clean slate.
He said: “It is frustrating, if we can influence a change we absolutely will.”
