Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has took a thinly-veiled swipe at the National League, after his club saw a game abandoned whilst they were leading 2-0.
The Red Dragons were taken over by McElhenney and fellow Hollywood A-Lister Ryan Reynolds earlier this year.
They have made it clear in no uncertain terms that they expect a promotion this season after hiring experienced EFL boss Phil Parkinson and recruiting a raft of players from higher divisions.
On Saturday, Parkinson's side travelled to Aldershot and were two goals to the good through Jake Hyde and Paul Mullin. But the rain continued to fall on an already soggy surface and the game was abandoned in the second half.
It left the visitors furious - including co-owner McElhenney.
He took to Twitter, posting: "I’m watching our PLAYERS MOP THE FIELD to continue the game. I’ve never seen anything like it.
"Official statement from the Co-chairman: 'We need to get out of this f***ing league.'"
In another tweet, he added: "I’ve been assured that the groundskeepers of Aldershot did everything they could to keep the game on. Yes, it’s frustrating. But a lot of those people are volunteers who work really hard in brutal conditions. Thank you to them and to @OfficialShots. We’ll see you again soon :)"
Wrexham have won plenty of headlines this season, thanks to a lucrative sponsorship with TikTok, inclusion in the new FIFA 22 game (despite them being in non-league) and an upcoming documentary focusing on their change of ownership.
Parkinson said of the abandonment yesterday: "I would have liked to have seen more effort at half-time by the ground staff at Aldershot to clear the water off the pitch.
"They were 2-0 down, there was not going to be a great deal of effort to get it on even when the ref gave it another 10 minutes, we were searching for the ground staff but they were nowhere to be seen."
The game will be replayed at a later date.
Wrexham now drop to 12th in the National League, three points adrift of the play-offs.
