Rob Kearney's honeymoon hell as wife tests positive for Covid-19

Rob Kearney's wife Jess Redden has tested positive for Covid-19 while on honeymoon.

The pharmacy student married the former Leinster and Ireland star earlier this month and the pair were set to enjoy the traditional comforts of a honeymoon together until news came that both were close contacts.

After just two days away, the pair received the notification and following a subsequent PCR test, Redden was confirmed as Covid positive.

The 28-year-old announced the news to her followers and Instagram and described the feelings attached to the blow.

She said: “I was taking a break from social media and was in two minds about posting what’s been happening but like other subjects, I feel it’s important to shine a light on and talk openly about.

“After two days away, we got the news that we were close contacts so had to isolate then my PCR confirmed I had Covid so 10 days of isolation.

“Felt every emotion and certainly not the honeymoon we had planned, just glad that everyone I love is safe.

“I could have waited until I finished my placement but I really wanted a break from work and a holiday with my husband post wedding!

“We’re all in uncharted territory so just trying to do the best we can. It feels awful to miss work but so many of us are in the same boat – trying to practice what I always preach and just be gentle and kind to myself.

“Hope you guys are all keeping safe and well.”

Former Ireland star Kearney recently retired from the game of rugby after a glittering career with club and country.

After some time with The Western Force in Perth, Kearney returned home to Ireland during 2021.

Recently, he was set to have a final outing as a rugby player in an appearance for the iconic Barbarians outfit, but the late-November showpiece was cancelled owing to Covid-19 cases.
