Rob Kearney opens up on New York engagement to Jess Redden

Rob Kearney has opened up on his New York engagement to Jess Redden, and said he managed to brush off any nerves before popping the question.

The Ireland rugby star proposed to model and pharmacy student girlfriend Jess ahead of the New Year's Eve countdown last year.

And Rob revealed that the engagement was even more special because of the buzz around the city at the time.

He told RSVP Live: "New York is lovely and it was a great time of year to go, because it was New Years so there was a huge buzz around the city with the big ball drop- and everybody was in good form.

"It was a great place to do it."

Speaking at the launch of Fashion Relief 2020 a sustainable fashion fundraiser in aid of Oxfam Ireland, he added: "I wasn’t too nervous really, I had it well planned. I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I might be."

While it well planned by the Louth native, part of the engagement was done spur of the moment. He added: "The more original the better."

Engagements can be quite emotional but Rob managed to hold back the tears while down on bended knee. He joked: "I would never do that."

The couple are relishing their romance at such a happy time, so they have no plans made to walk down the aisle for their wedding just yet.

Rob continued: "We are very bad, we have planned nothing yet so that is all on the do to list."

Rob donated a signed Leinster jersey for Fashion Relief, a charity event he likes to support.

He said: "It is a great cause and Lorraine is doing some fantastic work. I supported it a few years ago and I am more than happy to support it again.

"I have given the small token of a signed Leinster jersey but hopefully it will make a difference of some sort."
