Rob Kearney and Keith Earls are still available for selection at this stage for Sunday's World Cup opener against Scotland, says Andy Farrell.
The backline duo participated in training this morning before the squad's arrival at their base in Yokohama ahead of the clash in that city, and Ireland assistant Farrell said; "They have ran well and trained well today.
"They're very happy with their progress."
Robbie Henshaw is already out of contention for this week and it remains to be seen if Earls, who has just returned to training after tendonitis in his knee, and Kearney - who suffered tightness in his calf in training on Tuesday - will be risked.
"We wouldn't take risks unnecessarily," cautioned Farrell. "But we'll talk to the medics and we'll make a decision on the basis of that."
If they do miss out, Jordan Larmour and Andrew Conway are expected to replace them. "They don’t see themselves as just part of the squad now, they are team members," said Farrell.
The Englishman, who succeeds Joe Schmidt in the head coach role when Ireland return from Japan, knows that there are players who will not play in another World Cup after this one due to their age profile.
But he insists the experience within the panel rules out the prospect of players trying too hard - and suffering the consequences.
"See, I always think desperation is a disease because it makes you make bad decision, but that's what experience gives you," he said.
"We don't want to reach boiling point on Wednesday or Friday."
Farrell added: "It's nice to be here, it's been a great few days and we've been able to knuckle down, get over the jet lag and get a feel for Japan. It's nice to come into the city and feel it building up".
