Rob Howley interviewed by Irish province for back-room team role after the World Cup

Rob Howley has been interviewed for the role of attack coach with Munster, according to reports in Ireland.

The Wales assistant is leaving his current post after this year's World Cup and spoke at some length ast week about what the future may hold for him. You can read what he said here .

But the prospect of him becoming part of the back-room staff at Munster is something of a surprise given that Howley has spoken about becoming a head coach with a club or potentially staying in the international game with a different country.

Website the42.ie reports that Howley made a good impression in the interview and that his vast experience would be welcomed at Thomond Park.

Were the move to materialise Howley, 48, would be working underneath South African boss Johann van Graan, who is 10 years younger than him.

The 31-year-old Felix Jones is currently overseeing the Munster attack but it is thought he will remain in the management team in some capacity if Howley is appointed.

Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde has already confirmed he will be moving across the Irish Sea after the World Cup , having accepted the forwards coaching role at Leinster.

If Welsh rugby was to lose the services of three of Gatland's current lieutenants - Shaun Edwards is on his way to be an assistant coach with the French national team - questions are likely to be asked about why none are being utilised on home soil.

Howley has been linked with the vacant post at the Dragons, a role that is now thought to be going to Englishman Dean Ryan .
