Rob Holding to return to exact spot he injured knee ahead of Man Utd vs Arsenal

Rob Holding has made plans to visit the exact spot at Old Trafford he ruptured cruciate ligaments in his left knee.

Arsenal defender Holding was almost forced to call quits on his career nine months ago following an innocent collision with Marcus Rashford.

The centre back, who'd had an impressive start to the season, only return to the Gunners side for their Carabao Cup victory over Nottingham Forest earlier this week - where he netted in a 5-0 thrashing.

Holding is in line for his first Premier League appearance since the injury at United on Monday night.

“It will be coming full circle for me," Holding said.

“Even if I am on the bench it will be brilliant to just walk back to that spot where it happened and take it in and have a bit of a moment. Then it will be business as usual.

“It is a bit of closure for it to happen there and then your first game involved is back there. It will be interesting.

“I genuinely just thought it was a bit of knee on knee contact and a bit of a bump at the time. I was like, ‘Ah, I’ve got a bit of a crack on my knee there – that’s a bit sore’. It wasn’t until I tried to put weight on it and it gave way again that I realised it was something serious.

“I was having my first long-term run in the team, so it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. That’s why it was tough to take. But I just worked hard, and understood each step. Credit to the club for the way they dealt with it.”

Like Holding, Hector Bellerin made his long awaited comeback from injury against Forest on Tuesday night.

Right back Bellerin suffered a similar knee at Chelsea a month after Holding - and the pair made the gruelling fight back to fitness together.

Holding said: “I was two weeks post-op when Hector went down.

“It was really emotional, I cried. I was sat with my girlfriend and I thought, ‘Oh no’. Because it was so raw for me, it hit a spot.”
