Rob Holding in talks to join Besiktas as Arsenal close in on Jurrien Timber transfer

Rob Holding's future at Arsenal remains uncertain, according to The Express.

Holding is said to be in talks with Turkish side Besiktas over a potential loan deal during the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta continues to freshen his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The north London outfit are claimed to have received an offer for the experienced defender, who is now discussing a move away from the club.

The 27-year-old is currently behind William Saliba and Ben White in Arteta's pecking order at right-centre-back, with a potential move for Jurrien Timber only making the former Bolton man's changes of game time even slimmer next term. football.london understands that the Gunners had an opening offer of £30million for Timber turned down by Ajax last week.

The Dutch international has been identified as the perfect versatile option for Arteta's defence, more than capable of operating as a makeshift inverted right-back, as well as in central defence. As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a second bid has since gone in, with personal terms already agreed.

Writing on Twitter, Romano said: "EXCL: Arsenal have submitted a second official proposal to Ajax in order to get Jurrien Timber deal done this week. #AFC Talks advancing between clubs after £30m opening bid rejected.
