Rob Holding: Crystal Palace defender departs for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Rob Holding has left the club, with the Englishman set to complete a move to Colorado Rapids.

Standard Sport understands Holding underwent a medical on Wednesday ahead of his free transfer to the American club.

Holding’s two-year stay at Palace will ultimately be remembered as a failed mission, with the defender making just one first-team appearance and struggling with injury setbacks as well as falling out of favour with manager Oliver Glasner.

The next stage of his career sees the 29-year-old relocate to Denver to join the MLS team who are members of the Western Conference.

Holding joined Palace in September 2023 from London rivals Arsenal, where he had played since his 2016 move from Bolton Wanderers.

He spent the second half of last season on loan in the Championship with promotion challengers Sheffield United, for whom he made 12 appearances.

A club statement from Palace on Thursday afternoon confirmed his exit but made no mention of his impending move to the Rapids, who, like Arsenal, are owned by Stan Kroenke.

“The club wishes Rob well for his future career,” the statement from Palace read.
