On one of the more surreal nights in WWE history Friday, there was some “real” news out of SmackDown.
The show was broadcast on FOX in its usual time slot. What was atypical was the matches took place before an empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL, necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic.
So, WWE’s Superstars went through their matches and promos for two hours as if nothing was missing despite the absence of the WWE Universe for a card slated to be held in Detroit.
The news that came out of the show is former New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski will appear on the March 20 edition of the show. It is scheduled for New Orleans, however, it could also take place in the Performance Center if bans are not lifted.
Gronk’s friend Mojo Rawley made the announcement, though he would not go as far as saying Gronk had signed with WWE. Rawley said, “The rumors are true and Rob Gronkowski will be in the house next Friday. Get hyped, baby.”
The news caught the eyes and ears of one of the nation’s top NFL insiders.
Meanwhile, Vegas is getting on-board with the Gronk-WWE train, listing odds on who could be the FOX football analyst’s first opponent.
Cesaro 3-1

If you bet on the skilled Cesaro as Gronk’s first foe you would be looking to collect $300 in winnings for every $100 you wager. Cesaro’s in-ring skill would present quite the test for Gronk but it also would likely allow him to prevent any major injury happening to the former football star.
Robert Roode 7-2

Another heel who could get a big push the five-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champ is Robert Roode. The “Glorious” One is currently a part of the Raw tag-team champs with Dolph Ziggler.
Mojo Rawley 5-1

It would be classic WWE for Gronk’s “friend” to turn on him because he is envious of all the attention the tight end would get as he approaches his debut. Gronk helped Rawley win the Andre the Giant Battle Royale at WrestleMania 33 and has helped provide the connection between WWE and the former NFL star.
Sheamus 5-1

Another Superstar listed at 5-1 is Sheamus, who has one of the best haircuts in the business.
Jinder Mahal 6-1

Jinder Mahal would make a natural foe for Gronk as he was the victim of the former Patriot star’s interference at WrestleMania 33. However, Mahal is recuperating from a knee injury and there is no guarantee he will be cleared in time for WrestleMania, which is April 5, or any event soon. A newcomer listed at these odds is also Riddick Moss.
King Corbin 8-1

One of the longer shots on the oddsboard is King Baron Corbin. However, he would make for a smart foe. Corbin is a former NFL player, having spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts. The natural reason to pit Gronk and Corbin, though, is the self-proclaimed “King” of WWE is a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Odds to become a champion

Betonline.ag also has odds on whether Gronk will become a champion of either title belt by May 1.
