Rob Gronkowski ignited more comeback rumors with a cryptic emoji tweet

Welcome to sports in 2019: A single emoji tweet has the power to send sports fans into a frenzy.

Shortly after the Patriots traded Demaryius Thomas to the Jets for a 2021 sixth-round pick on Tuesday, the retired Rob Gronkowski took to Twitter and posted an eyeballs emoji.

Oh, here we go again. What could this possibly mean? Does Gronk have a comeback in the works? Or was he just tweeting about literally anything else?

Given that a roster spot *just* opened up in New England, fans drew plenty of football-related conclusions. He jokingly (at least, we think) said Monday that he would return around Week 14.

Anyway, the tweet did have fans and media in full speculation mode.

Some noticed that Gronk’s Twitter bio read, “New England Patriots Tight End.”
