Rob Green's Callum Hudson-Odoi claims that will excite Chelsea fans

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green has claimed that Callum Hudson-Odoi is a level above the other young players that Frank Lampard has at his disposal.

The Blues extended their winning streak in all competitions to four matches after sweeping aside Southampton on Sunday, where Hudson-Odoi made his first start of the Premier League season in the 4-1 triumph.

18-year-old Hudson-Odoi caught the eye, assisting Tammy Abraham's opening goal, and his return to fitness will give Lampard a tremendous boost for the coming months.

Now, former Chelsea goalkeeper Green has revealed just how impressed he was with the teenager during his breakthrough campaign last term and backed him to shine this season.

"He's a confident lad, really happy just playing his football and he's got such a brilliant mind for playing. He'll do something and you'll ask, why did you do that? And he'll say he's never done it before, so he's just trying it out," he told BBC Radio 5Live.

"The way he speaks, the way he is around the lads, the way he holds himself and obviously his ability. He will be at Chelsea for as long as he wants to be, then maybe onto greater things.

Southgate on Tomori's rise to the England squad

"I'd say he's a level above Abraham, Mount and Tomori. We were in the dressing room last season saying 'how is he not playing?'

"He was going out in training and, some of the best defenders in the world, tearing them apart. He would be consistently the best trainer in training, some of the best players in the world would be standing their applauding what he was doing.

"There is no such thing as nerves for him. He just tries anything he wants and, because he's that good, it will usually come off."
