Rob Garrison dead: The Karate Kid actor dies in hospital at 59

Rob Garrison has died at the age of 59, his family have confirmed.

The actor, who is best known for playing the role of Tommy in cult film The Karate Kid, had been in hospital for a month suffering from kidney and liver problems.

He passed away there on Friday morning in West Virginia.

Rob was ill for a long time and his organs eventually shut down, his sister-in-law confirmed to TMZ.

His acting career began in the late 70s before he landed a part in the 1984 classic film, and later went on to star in its 1986 sequel.

Tommy is the character best known for yelling the line "Get him a body bag! Yeah!"

Rob had small roles in TV sows like MacGyver, Columbo and Coach.

He didn't act from 1991 until 2011, when he landed a role in The Pledge.

He reprised his role as Tommy for the YouTube TV series "Cobra Kai" this year.

Rob had also been working as a restaurant manager in Wheeling, West Virginia.
