Rob Edwards went off in the Thunder’s third summer league game

In January, the Oklahoma City Blue and other G League teams took part in a three-round draft to select new members for the team. In the second round, the Blue’s fourth pick of the draft, the team selected Rob Edwards.

The shooting guard showed why the organization went in his direction. During the OKC Thunder’s third summer league game, Edwards went 4-for-7 from 3, one of which was a go-ahead bucket with four minutes to play in the game.

Despite the Thunder taking the lead late, the Golden State Warriors scored the final 13 points of the game to win 94-84, a final tally not indicative of how close the game was for much of the second half.

Edward’s 23 points was not only a game-high, but the first time a Thunder player reached the 20-point threshold this summer league.

Theo Maledon also took a step in the right after struggling in the previous game. The second-year point guard had made five 3-pointers en route to 18 points, and he tallied six rebounds and five assists.

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who had 10 points and nine rebounds, was the only other Thunder player to reach double-digit points.

The Warriors were led by 22 points from No. 14 pick Moses Moody and 18 points from Jonathan Kuminga, who many considered to be a potential Thunder pick at No. 6 before organization chose Josh Giddey and gave Golden State the chance to take Kuminga at No. 7.

OKC had quite a few absences on Friday night. Josh Giddey and Tre Mann, the team’s first two selections in the 2021 draft, were out, as was summer league head coach Grant Gibbs, who is in COVID-19 protocol.

The Thunder were coached by Kameron Woods.
