Rob Brydon teases new Gavin and Stacey special as follow-up to Nessa's proposal

Rob Brydon has said that he is expecting another Gavin and Stacey special as a follow-up to Nessa's proposal to Smithy.

The hit BBC sitcom's Christmas special was the most-watched scripted TV programme of the 2010s after 17.1million viewers tuned in to watch it at the time.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, actor Rob, who plays Uncle Bryn, suggested that fans could look forward to another special in the near-future.

However, he also stressed that there were "no plans" at the moment but admitted that previously they had been incredibly secretive about the Christmas special.

Host Ben had asked: "Gavin and Stacey, Rob - we know how close you are to Bryn and how fond you are of that character and the whole experience. I think it was over 20million people who watched the Christmas special."

"I think it was one of the biggest ever," Kate added.

Ben probed: "Are we gonna get more, Rob? What can you share with us."

Rob replied: "I would love to share with you, to sit here like a Welsh Richard Arnold - can a man aim higher? I don't think so. But I don't know!

"There are certainly no plans at the moment but the way they left it with Nessa proposing to Smithy, I suspect at some point they will do another special but there are no plans at the moment.

"Although, with the last one with the Christmas special I had no idea that they had written a script.

"I assumed I'd hear about it on the grapevine but they were very secretive. So who knows!"

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
