Roast potatoes and mayonnaise hack which chef claims is secret to perfect recipe

A chef 's secret ingredient is usually under lock and key, but the answer to one man's perfect roast potatoes has shocked the internet.

As cooks prep for Christmas dinners across the country, the search for the best roasties is on.

Everyone has their own take on how to make the best potatoes whether it's goose fat or triple frying, but one influencer's secret ingredient may be a step too far for some.

Chef and influencer Eitan Bernath ( @eitan ) claims that the best roast potatoes are made by slathering the spuds with mayonnaise in a video shared on TikTok.

Influencer Eitan says the roasties are 'perfectly soft and pillowy' (Tiktok/eitan)

You heard that right - full fat mayo plus seasoning in the form of pepper, garlic, paprika and fresh parsley, before banging it in the oven for 20 minutes.

He claims this cooking method creates roasties which are "perfectly soft and pillowy on the inside, crunchy on the outside and full of flavour."

You've got to admit it's a little bizarre, but given that the main ingredient of mayonnaise is oil, it does make a lot more sense when you think about it.

One TikTok user commented: "I must say I judged at the beginning, didn't trust the process, but now you've got me like..." alongside the hungry emoji.

"People are forgetting what mayonnaise actually is, it 100 percent makes sense," another added.

In all fairness, the end result is a tray of good looking roast potatoes.
