A contest comparing the meals served by restaurants at ski resorts was held in Nagano Prefecture, where skiers visit from around the world. Forty-three menus from 25 ski resorts were entered, and skiers evaluated them on five criteria: taste, volume, price, hospitality and originality.
The Roast Beef Baguette Sandwich from Able Hakuba Goryu Iimori, in Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, was rated best of all.
The contest was the seventh this season, held with the aim of improving the quality of meals at ski resorts.
The winning sandwich is filled with roast beef and sliced tomato, and comes with barbecue sauce, onion rings, fried potatoes and extra lettuce on the side. The price is 1,400 yen including tax.
An official of the Able Hakuba resort said at the ceremony, "There is little snow this year, but we want to provide more delicious food in the remaining season."
