Roar suffer keeper injury setback

Roar keeper Jamie Young will miss at least six weeks with a medial ligament injury. (AAP)

Brisbane Roar are set to thrust youngster Macklin Freke into an A-League debut next week with goalkeeper Jamie Young sidelined.

Young suffered an injury in training earlier this week and is facing several weeks on the sidelines to recover.

In a short statement the Roar confirmed the 35-year-old had suffered a "contact knee injury" but refused to disclose its exact nature or a timeline on his recovery.

It's understood Young has injured a medial ligament and will miss at least six weeks.

The news means 22-year-old Freke is in line to make his senior debut when Brsibane face the Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Wednesday.

Freke, a Roar academy graduate, was a part of the club's youth league winning team in 2019 before signing a scholarship deal later that year and has been an unused substitute in the club's two matches this season.
