Roadworks to disrupt night traffic on Northbourne Avenue

Northbourne Avenue will be closed in the southbound direction between Antill Street and Wakefield Avenue overnight from Sunday.

Weather permitting, roadwork to improve the surface of Northbourne will take place between 7pm to 5am over five nights, preventing southbound traffic.

In addition, Morphett Street will be closed between Challis Street and Northbourne Avenue while the work is underway.

The work will include removing the existing top layer of the road surface, patching any cracks in the road and then resurfacing the full length of the road.

Off-road footpaths will remain open during the nightworks, however on-road cycle lanes will be closed. All pedestrian crossings will be under the guidance of traffic controllers.

There will be no impact on light rail or bus services.

Access Canberra has asked pedestrians and cyclists to follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signage when crossing Northbourne Avenue.

"Guests of the Pavilion Hotel will be allowed through the worksite until midnight on each night," a spokesperson said,

"Signage will be in place with traffic controllers instructing vehicles how to access the Pavilion Hotel through the worksite."

Access Canberra has advised that should these works not be completed within the five designated nights, they will continue on the following nights. Roadside signage will be in place to warn road users.
